Why this site exists
Search for a Mangystau tour and you get six-day expeditions priced at $3,400 next to twelve-hour day trips at $490, with nothing to tell you which is expensive. The reason is buried in a single line under each price: these are vehicle prices, and the number of people they cover is different on every listing. One is sold per group up to 1. Another covers four.
Nobody publishes that comparison, so a traveller with three friends and a traveller alone read the same page and reach opposite conclusions. Doing the arithmetic and printing it beside the price is the entire job of this site.
Where the facts come from
Tour prices, group caps, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, age limits and cancellation terms are read off each operator's own listing on the date shown on the page, in US dollars. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order. Tour listings checked: 12 August 2026.
Itineraries, stop lists and hours at each site come from the listings' own day-by-day blocks — not from operator marketing copy. Where a listing contradicts itself, such as the two tours whose group badge and price line disagree, we print both figures and say which one governs the checkout.
Regional information — the geology of the Ustyurt plateau, the sacred-site dress code, seasonal temperatures — is checked against published sources and recent first-hand visitor reports, and dated where it appears. Review quotes carry the reviewer's first name, country and travel month exactly as published. We do not write testimonials.
What we do not do
We do not drive the routes, camp at Bozzhyra, meet the guides or audit vehicles and safety records. Whether a particular driver knows the current state of a track after a storm is something you find out in the car, and it is a matter for the operator you book with.
We also do not take your booking. Every Check Availability button sends you to the platform the operator sells on, where the price, the group cap, the terms and the cancellation window are theirs.
How the site pays for itself
Links to tours on this site are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays us a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going there directly.
That arrangement pays for the research and nothing else. It does not decide which tours appear, what order they sit in, or what we say about them. The cheapest listing on the homepage earns us the least, and it is the one we point most travellers to first.
Corrections
Prices in Kazakhstan move, operators change vehicles and caps, and tracks close after storms. If something here is out of date, write to us and tell us what you found and when you were there. We would rather fix a number than defend it.
