2-Day Tour with Yurt Stay and Meals

Day one: the northern cluster

The first day is the same ground the 12-hour day trip covers, run at a similar pace: Shakpak-Ata, the underground mosque cut into the cliff; the Kapamsai Canyon; Torysh, where stone spheres a metre to three metres across lie scattered over kilometres of steppe; Kokala, whose sandstone preserves the colours of the Jurassic sea floor; Sherkala, the Lion Mountain; and the Valley of Castles at Airakty, where wind and time have cut the rock into fortress shapes.

The difference is what happens at the end of it. Instead of driving back to Aktau you keep going south, and the second half of the trip becomes possible.

The yurt night

You sleep in a traditional Kazakh yurt, and the listing is specific that it is private: no other guests will be staying with you. Dinner and breakfast are cooked for you, and drinks are unlimited.

A yurt is a real upgrade over a tent on this plateau. It has a floor, it holds heat after the sun drops, and the wind — which every traveller here mentions — stays outside. One Japanese traveller who went in July 2026 reported air conditioning and a shower at the overnight stop, which is not standard across operators in this region and worth confirming before you count on it.

Day two: Bozzhyra, both viewpoints

Kyzylkup opens the second day — the striped hills local guides nicknamed Tiramisu, where white bands of chalk alternate with red bands stained by iron, spread over several kilometres of steppe. Then Bokty Mountain, which rises 165 m from a base 8 m above sea level and is the mountain printed on the 1000 tenge banknote.

Then Bozzhyra. The listing specifies both the upper and lower viewpoints, which matters more than it sounds: Bozzhyra is a large tract with several panoramas, and experienced visitors complain that most itineraries visit one and call it done. Getting the upper and lower perspectives in a single morning is the reason this two-day trip does not feel like a compromise.

Five reviews is five reviews

The rating is a perfect 5.0 and the reviews are specific in the way genuine ones tend to be. Richard from Kazakhstan, July 2026, singled out lunch under a canopy mounted on the car on the salt plain below Bokty, and wrote that "the sense of isolation and peace will stay with me". Patience from Azerbaijan, June 2026, credited the guide's knowledge of the backroads for reaching places they could never have found alone.

The price covers three, and only three

What two days does not include

The Tuzbair salt flats, the Karynzharyk depression, the Senek dunes and Zhygylgan are all outside this itinerary. So is the slow pace: two days in Mangystau means long driving stretches bracketing short stops, and sunrise at one viewpoint rather than three.

Book it if

You have a short window in Aktau, Bozzhyra is non-negotiable, and there are two or three of you to split the vehicle. It is also the right pick if the idea of sleeping in a tent on an exposed plateau is where you draw the line.
