Compare the day structure with the shorter trips and the difference is obvious. The 2-day tour covers seven landmarks on its first day. This one gives day three to Karatau Baykisi and Tuzbair, day four to Kyzylsay, the Senek dunes and sunset at Bokty, and day five to Kyzylkup and both Bozzhyra viewpoints.

That is the difference between photographing a place and spending time in it. It also means fewer hours in the vehicle each day, which on tracks like these is worth more than it sounds — travellers here routinely cover 150 to 300 km a day, most of it on dirt.

The route, day by day

Day one runs from the Aktau meeting point to the Zhygylgan sinkhole, where fossil footprints of ancient animals are exposed in the collapsed rock, then to the Shakpak-Ata underground mosque and the cliff panoramas above it.

Day two takes the Valley of Balls at Torysh — hundreds of spherical stone concretions, one to three metres across, scattered over kilometres — and continues to Shakpakty-Sai for sunset photography.

Day three is Karatau Baykisi canyon with hiking, then the Tuzbair salt marsh with its white cliffs and 8-kilometre salt pan. Day four is the coloured Kyzylsay valley, the Senek sand dunes and sunset at Bokty Mountain. Day five is Kyzylkup, the Tiramisu formations, and Bozzhyra from both the upper and lower viewpoints.

Day six travels through the city of Zhanaozen to the Ybykty-Sai canyon — a short limestone gorge in the Karagiye basin, Kazakhstan's deepest depression at 132 m below sea level — before the return to Aktau.

The kit that comes with it

Drone filming is included rather than sold as an add-on, which on the 4-day private tour is an extra you order after booking. So is a refrigerator in the vehicle, which after four days of desert matters more than it reads, and Starlink internet at camp.

That last one is a genuine outlier. Travellers crossing this region consistently report no signal outside the towns. If you need to stay reachable for six days, this is the only listing here that solves it.

The price, stated plainly

$3,400 for a vehicle carrying up to three people is about $1,133 each — more than double the 4-day private tour at $515, for two extra days. Per day per person it is roughly $189 against $129 on the four-day trip.

Some of that premium is the kit: drone filming, the fridge, Starlink, camping equipment with sleeping bags and mats, and a guesthouse night. Some of it is simply the length. Whether six days at this pace is worth 2.2 times the four-day price is a judgement about how you like to travel, not a pricing error — but it should be a conscious decision.

It is a new listing

Marked New activity, no rating, no reviews. Two of the six listings we compare are in that position and this is the more expensive of them, which makes the gap harder to shrug off at $3,400.

The operator, Mangystau tour KZ, holds ratings elsewhere — 5.0 from five reviews on the 2-day tour and 5.0 from one on the 4-day Nomads tour — and reviewers on those name the same guides repeatedly. If a track record on this specific itinerary is what you need, it does not exist yet.

The Zhanaozen confusion, and the health limits

The listing sits on the platform's Zhanaozen page rather than the Aktau one, which makes it look like a different starting point. It is not: day one begins with a meeting at Aktau airport or your hotel, and Zhanaozen appears on day six as a place you drive through on the way back.

The listing is direct about who should not book it: people with back problems, heart problems, respiratory issues or mobility impairments. Six days of off-road driving, camp toilets and unshaded walking is a real physical proposition, not a formality.

Book it if

You want the region rather than its highlights, you are working — the Starlink is not decoration — or you are shooting a project that needs drone footage and repeat visits to the same light.
